research - our culture!

The Research and Development (R&D) Directorate (formerly Directorate of Science and Technology) of Federal Polytechnic Ede serves as the institutional engine room for transformative research and sustainable development. Established to strengthen the Polytechnic's contribution to knowledge creation and socio-economic development, the Directorate provides a strategic platform for nurturing ideas, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, and driving high-impact research.

We are committed to promoting a vibrant research culture by facilitating staff and student access to funding opportunities, capacity-building programs, and publication support. Our core mandate includes identifying priority research areas aligned with national and global development goals, coordinating grant applications, monitoring project implementation, and showcasing institutional research outputs. Through strategic partnerships with government agencies, international organizations, industry stakeholders, and funding bodies—including TETFund, NCC, British Council, and others—we continue to expand the scope and relevance of our research initiatives.

At the core of our mission lies a firm belief in research as a catalyst for innovation, problem-solving, and meaningful societal transformation. From hosting proposal writing bootcamps and facilitating access to global publication platforms to championing community-driven innovation, the Directorate remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering the research ecosystem at Federal Polytechnic Ede.

Under the visionary leadership of the 6th Rector, Engr. Dr. Sani Man Yahya, the Directorate has been tasked with reinvigorating research culture to tackle challenges at the institutional, community, and national levels. This transformation is being driven through a series of targeted capacity-building workshops (primarily virtual), investment in essential research tools and software, and the establishment of Memoranda of Understanding and collaborations with both industry and academic partners. A notable outcome of these efforts is the growing culture of publishing in high-impact indexed journals, with academic staff increasingly visible on platforms such as Scopus and Web of Science.
