Federal Polytechnic Ede develops the World's First Smart Vaccine Cooling Carrier - CoolTech!
Gets her first Innovation Patent
Federal Polytechnic Ede has secured its first innovative research patent, following the development of the World's first Smart Vaccine Cooling Carrier - CoolTech. The Patent was presented to the Research Team Lead (Dr. Ben Festus) by the Executive Secretary of TETFUND and the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, at the 2024 Maiden Exhibitions organized by TETFUND at the Eagles Square in Abuja.
A team of researchers from Federal Polytechnic Ede has been selected to participate in the prestigious TETFAIR (TETFUND Alliance for Innovative Research) program for Polytechnics, funded by TETFUND. The team's groundbreaking project, titled “Microcontroller-Based Power Management Systems”, aims to develop smart solutions for energy efficiency and sustainability.
Team Members:
CoolTech, an earlier TETFAIR-winning innovation, was led by Dr. Ben Festus, with Dr. Yusuf T. O. and Mr. Oke Timothy as team members. The project focused on smart cooling systems for vaccine preservation during last-mile delivery, demonstrating the institution’s growing reputation for problem-solving and impact-driven research.
The Federal Polytechnic Ede under the leadership of Engr. Dr. Sani Man Yahya has commenced the construction of an ultra-modern Central Laboratory—the first of its kind within the institution—at its South Campus. Designed to serve as a hub for cutting-edge research, the Central Laboratory will foster interdisciplinary scientific inquiry and innovation across departments.
Once completed, the facility will be outfitted with state-of-the-art research equipment, including a SEM, X-Ray Diffraction system, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer, and other advanced instrumentation essential for high-level research and development. This landmark project is proudly funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), reinforcing the institution’s commitment to enhancing research capacity, innovation, and national development through science and technology.
